Christie France, executive director of Discover Denton, briefed council on steps to transition Discover Denton into an independent Denton Destination Management and Marketing Organization (DMMO). France recapped prior council actions authorizing the transition path, noted the new entity filed articles of incorporation on Feb. 18, 2026 and received an EIN on March 3, 2026, and said staff requested transfer of remaining hotel-occupancy-tax funds and will present lease agreements for the visitor center and office space at upcoming meetings.
The acquisition agreement approved tonight authorizes transfer of tangible inventory, personal property, contracts and an intellectual-property license to the DMMO and allows staff to proceed with ancillary agreements necessary for operational independence. France said current Discover Denton staff will be offered employment with the DMMO with comparable compensation and benefits to maintain continuity. Council voted 7–0 to approve the acquisition agreement.
