At the Feb. 9 meeting the Harrison Township Board opened the Community Development Block Grant public hearing required by the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 and heard two public commenters before approving a slate of grant actions.
Clerk Adam Wit explained the CDBG 'bricks and mortar' portion is competitive and communities may apply for up to $150,000 for two projects; the board voted to apply for two $150,000 sewer‑lining projects for West and South Magdalena streets and to allocate the township’s estimated 2026 public services allocation of $17,750 to the Dial‑a‑ride bus service. Claire Brinkman of Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers and a representative identified only as Stephanie from Care House spoke during public comment in support of CDBG funding for community services.
The Board also approved a Fishbeck proposal to complete the design and bidding phases for the 2025 CDBG sewer lining projects (St. Christopher and Anchorage streets) for a lump sum fee of $13,800, with construction engineering to be considered once construction contracts are awarded. Motions to open and close the hearing and to approve the grant application and Fishbeck contract passed unanimously.
Next steps: Fishbeck will proceed with design and bidding for the awarded 2025 CDBG projects; the township will prepare and submit competitive grant applications for the two sewer projects and allocate the public services funding to Dial‑a‑ride as approved.
