Council hears 2026 update to Denton's Simply Sustainable framework; staff to return with resolution

Barnett highlighted progress: a reported drop in greenhouse gas emissions per capita from roughly 17.71 to 6.3, more than 5,800 energy-efficiency incentives distributed to DME customers through GreenSense, reduced municipal energy and water consumption, and nearly 14,000 participants in community engagement events last year.
Council members generally supported adopting the framework as proposed. Mayor Pro Tem asked that future updates consider tying fiscal sustainability to environmental goals; Barnett agreed that departments were consulted and that the document is intended as a push toward measurable outcomes. Barnett told council staff will bring a resolution for adoption at a future meeting.
