Harrison Township hires utility worker and mechanical inspector, approves union LOA

The board approved hiring Jonah Muneio as a Water and Sewer Utility Worker 1 at a starting salary of $52,321.90 ($25.15 per hour) plus benefits, contingent on a physical exam, drug test and a 90-day probationary period. The motion to hire was made by Trustee Brian Batkins and seconded by Trustee Dean Olgiati.
Separately, the board approved hiring Roy Pung as a part-time mechanical inspector at the current rate of $37.50 per hour; the Board noted that dual certification in mechanical and plumbing was a hiring advantage. The board also authorized forming a subcommittee composed of Supervisor Kenneth Verkest, Trustee Brian Batkins and Trustee Dean Olgiati to work with the Building Official on whether part-time inspector hourly rates should be revised.
The board approved a Letter of Agreement negotiated with the GELC General Employees Union to modify Article 40, which governs promotions for Water and Sewer Utility Worker positions; the LOA was presented as a negotiated fix to issues identified after implementation of earlier language. All motions on hiring and the LOA were carried by the Board.
These actions aim to address staffing needs in the township's utilities and inspection services and to align collective-bargaining language with operational experience.
