Lee County HR chief outlines vision to integrate services, lean into AI and prioritize employee support

Dominic Boyd, Lee County’s chief human resources officer, said he wants the county’s HR department to serve as “the model of what an integrated human resource department can be.” He added, “Certainly AI is going to change that.”

Boyd introduced himself as a long-time county employee who “started with Lee County in public safety as a medic” at age 21 and later served as a paramedic, field training officer, flight paramedic, lieutenant, division chief, deputy chief and ultimately deputy director and chief of staff before moving into human resources. He said he values Lee County’s culture across “more than 20 different industries,” which he described as feeling like a single organization where staff can move between departments.

Outlining his priorities, Boyd said HR will focus on strategic collaboration with departments, the county manager’s office and the board’s priorities to better serve employees and the community. He emphasized leaning on human creativity while preparing to integrate artificial intelligence into HR processes and planning: "we're thinking through how we can be more strategic, how we we can lean in on human creativity, and really be proactive in the way we, work with all the other departments."

He also spoke briefly about his personal interests, saying he likes to “tinker” and that "3 d printing or building electronics is kind of my passion," which he described as an engineering side that complements his leadership role. Boyd said his favorite thing about living in Lee County is the geography and weather, contrasting it with the Northeast and noting how the area has many qualities people look for in a vacation destination.
