The Village of Lake Odessa council held a budget workshop Feb. 2 to review the proposed 2026-27 fiscal-year budget and the Capital Improvement Plan presented by Manager Gregg Guetschow.
Guetschow highlighted anticipated changes to fund balances and outlined major projects in the draft plan. Council members reviewed each section of the budget while department heads described requests for their divisions.
During the discussion, council asked staff to include two specific line items in the draft budget: $10,000 for a council-chambers sound-system upgrade and $20,000 for a police-department drone. Guetschow also raised the idea of establishing a formal Fund Balance policy (a percentage-of-appropriations target) and noted the village may need to consider a new funding source in coming years to support capital needs.
No formal budget adoption vote was recorded at the workshop; the session served to review the draft and to provide direction for staff as they refine the proposal for future action.
