Council adopts 2025 work plans for planning, seniors and parks; consent agenda approved

At its June 9 meeting the City of Victoria City Council approved several advisory‑body work plans for 2025 and adopted the consent agenda.

Planning Commission Chair Joel Otterstetter summarized the commission's 2024 activities — 21 public hearings, review of 35 land‑use applications and work on 11 ordinance updates — and outlined 2025 priorities, including continuing the zoning code review, monitoring the state's "missing middle" legislation, and beginning community engagement for the 2050 comprehensive plan. "As the voice of the community, we ... offer recommendations to the council on land use applications and regulations," Otterstetter said.

Sue Bill presented the Senior Advisory Committee's 2025 focus on improving communication with older residents, producing printed resources, and four public engagement events to reach seniors who lack internet access.

Parks & Recreation Chair Larry Schultz (presented by Park & Rec Director Jenna Smith) highlighted plans to increase public engagement by bringing events to neighborhood parks, study nontraditional park spaces, address trail gaps and advise on Downtown West public‑space design.

The council moved, seconded and approved each committee's 2025 work plan by voice vote and adopted the meeting consent agenda (listed as the 06/09/2025 consent agenda). Councilmembers thanked committee chairs and staff for their work.

Next steps: committees will proceed with their 2025 schedules and staff will coordinate public engagement and follow‑up reports to council.
