The City of Victoria council voted this evening to adopt a resolution to submit an annexation request to the Office of Administrative Hearings for a 5.37-acre portion of a roughly 41-acre parcel adjacent to the Shores of Marsh Lake neighborhood.
City Planner Brian McCann presented the request and said the proposal envisions a six-lot single-family subdivision. "Tonight, we are considering an annexation for the Shores Of Marsh Lake second edition," McCann said, and noted the annexation under consideration covers only 5.37 acres of the larger parcel. He described the site as mostly vacant farmland with a single-family property on the west side and pockets of trees and low elevation changes on the east, and said the property is bordered by Marsh Lake Road, bisected by County Road 43, and has access to Pearsons Lake.
McCann told the council the annexed portion would initially receive the city's agricultural zoning; a subsequent preliminary plat and rezoning (likely a planned unit development) would be brought forward to match the existing Shores of Marsh Lake neighborhood. He said the Laketown Township board met earlier and approved the request with a condition related to sewer, and that, if the council approves, city staff will send notice to the Office of Administrative Hearings, which will issue a formal annexation notice.
A motion was made and seconded to adopt the resolution approving the annexation request for the Shores of Marsh Lake, second edition. The council approved the motion by voice vote.
The planning commission will formally review the preliminary plat and any rezoning request at a public hearing and will make a recommendation to the council at a later meeting. No detailed schedule or final preliminary-plat materials were presented to the council this evening.
