The Victoria Senior Advisory Committee elected Jenny Spalding as its chair during the committee’s April meeting. Committee members nominated Spalding and conducted a vote after the required motion and second; the chair announced the motion carried and congratulated the new chair.
Assistant City Manager Alyssa Nelson walked the group through the nomination process prior to the vote, explaining nominations, seconds and the motion-to-elect procedure. After a nomination for Ginny Spolin was offered, the committee proceeded with a motion to elect Jenny Spalding. Members indicated their support during the roll call and the chair declared the election successful.
Members then debated whether a vice-chair must be physically present to be nominated. Some members objected to nominating an absent person; others said nominating an absent member was acceptable. After discussion, a motion to table the vice-chair nomination until the next meeting was moved and seconded and carried. The chair asked members to contact the absent nominee, Kyle, before the next meeting.
The meeting then proceeded to committee orientation and regular reports before adjourning.
