Residents Tell Argo Board Buses Are Blocking 74th Avenue; District Promises Follow-up

At the Feb. 18 Argo CHSD 217 board meeting, Summit residents raised concerns about school bus staging on 74th Avenue, saying the practice blocks traffic and inconveniences homeowners.
Rita Young said buses now line up on 74th Avenue in the mornings and afternoons, making it nearly impossible for residents to drive north or south. "They are taxpayers, homeowners, and elderly village residents and they should be able to use their streets," she said. Dr. Brandon Cotter, the district’s interim superintendent, responded that he would follow up with the deans who manage transportation.
Resident Stanley Lumpkins supported Young’s account and said the district’s website indicates drop-off on 73rd Avenue, which he said has not been enforced; he told the board he has video showing the difficulties. Lumpkins said he supports Argo’s construction projects but that the bus staging has become a major disruption for neighbors.
Board member Diane Ponce said she would bring the issue to the Argo Lions Club to explore volunteer assistance with cleanup and mitigation, and the board pledged to look for a resolution.
