Dunbar told the Board the district has increased administrator "drop-ins" to classrooms, is refining multi-tiered systems of support and is clarifying the role of instructional coaches. He said the district's intervention services, leader and teacher evaluation plans, community engagement efforts and place-based outdoor learning initiatives also remain priorities.
Why it matters: Board members pressed on the lingering impacts of COVID-19 on student learning, whether teachers feel prepared for the new curricula and whether professional development time is sufficient. Those concerns bear on near-term planning for intervention and support services, officials said.
Board discussion named several concrete areas the district will monitor: student attendance trends, the middle school climate, progress on math and reading curriculum rollout at the elementary level, and expansion opportunities for World Language offerings. Dunbar also said the district's climate surveys—this year with open-ended questions—will provide qualitative input from students, staff and parents on successes and continuing challenges.
Dunbar identified additional potential focus areas for the next year's plan, saying the district may pursue "opportunities to take kindness to the next level in the district to ensure appropriate behaviors by students" and will look to "determine how best to utilize Artificial Intelligence throughout all of our schools." Those items were presented as possible priorities for further discussion rather than final decisions.
No formal action was taken on the Advancement Plan at the meeting; the Board will continue to receive updates as the district implements curriculum changes and analyzes climate and attendance data. Minutes were recorded and are subject to approval at the Board's May 5, 2025 meeting.
