The Select Board read a written status report from the transfer‑station operator responding to a safety inspection dated Jan. 28, 2026. The report addressed structural damage to a garage bay and office, interior and exterior lighting deficiencies, roll‑off container condition, material safety‑data sheets for hazardous materials, compressed‑gas cylinder storage, exit signage and fall‑protection concerns. The report described some items as resolved, others as in progress, and indicated that the Department of Labor would not impose fines while the town continues remediation efforts.
Chair Eric Seidel summarized three contractor estimates to address interior lighting problems and recommended the low, detailed bid from KLM for $2,980. KLM’s proposal would rewire existing fluorescent fixtures to accept LED tube lights, repair an inoperable fan noted during inspection and add an extra luminaire where an area remained dark. Seidel said the rewiring approach avoids the larger expense of replacing fixtures and conduit.
The board moved and approved the KLM quote on a roll‑call vote. Board members noted remaining unresolved items in the inspection report — including some structural repairs and an ongoing need to formalize procedures for handling abandoned toxic materials — and asked staff to track remediation and next steps.
Seidel said staff would schedule the contracted work and follow up on unresolved items in coordination with the Department of Labor’s inspectors.
