According to Tayes, when her husband collapsed she called 911, checked for breathing and a pulse, and began chest compressions after the dispatcher instructed her to do so. "You're gonna have to do heavier compressions," she recalled being told; after she increased the force of compressions, her husband began to respond before the ambulance and fire personnel took over.
Tayes credited both the classroom instruction and the on-scene guidance for the outcome. "My husband's alive," she said, thanking instructors and helpers for the training and support that she said enabled her to act.
A fellow meeting participant described hearing Tayes's account as "overwhelmingly emotional," saying that direct examples of community impact are powerful and expressing hope that training "can make an impact and save a life." The speaker did not give their name.
