Mayor Hartman honors wastewater crew after Department of Ecology award

Mayor Matthew Hartman opened the Dec. 4 meeting by announcing that the City of Granite Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant had received the Washington State Department of Ecology 2023 Outstanding Performance Award.
Reading from prepared remarks, Hartman said, "I am proud to announce that they are receiving the 2023 Outstanding Performance Award from the Washington State Department of Ecology. This reward isn't just a nice plaque, it represents the hard work and dedication our wastewater treatment team has consistently shown over the years." He named Lyle Bjornson as the lead and thanked Darin Jackson, Nathaniel Stoneking and Charles White for their support and work maintaining the plant despite aging equipment.
The mayor encouraged the audience to join him in applauding the wastewater team for their efforts to protect water quality and public health.
The recognition was presented at the start of the meeting and precedes the council’s business agenda.
