Judge announces courthouse LiveScan and plans for a neutral-exchange site to help families and cases

Chief Judge Villa told the Kane County Judicial and Public Safety Committee on March 12 that the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts has offered a LiveScan machine for the courthouse to address gaps created by citation-based releases.
"We'll be placing a LiveScan machine at the courthouse so that anybody who comes to court... they're actually flagged in our system if they don't have that background already established," Villa said, describing the machine as a way to make fingerprinting more consistent and to reduce extra travel burdens on people who previously had to go to arresting agencies.
Villa also described a planned neutral exchange pilot called "The Nest," funded and organized by a task force associated with the Barr Foundation. The Nest is intended to provide a supervised site with suitable entrances and exits for facilitated exchanges, including helping reduce trauma to children involved in custody drop-offs; Villa said the county committed facilities-fee support for remodeling and expects the site to operate preliminarily on Wednesdays and Saturdays and aimed to be up and running by year's end.
Separately, Villa said the Kane County Bar Association will take over administration of the county's driver-safety (traffic-school) program, a move he described as generating revenue for bar association operations and program support, including potential donations to The Nest.
The committee did not take formal action on these items at the March 12 meeting; Villa said implementation steps are underway and that county offices (court security, facilities and the bar association) are coordinating the transitions.
