City parks staff reported that Central Indiana Community Foundation expects to transfer roughly $800,000 to support construction of a planned trail, and staff said the city has already spent about $250,000 from the general fund on engineering.
Eric (Speaker 6), who handles operational matters for the parks department, told the board he is meeting with the city attorney and controller to draft a memorandum of understanding to receive the funds and suggested most of the foundation money would be applied to construction work while prior engineering costs were covered by the general fund.
Board members asked clarifying questions about what the foundation funds would cover and whether remaining engineering or matching costs were required. Eric said additional engineering is nearly complete and the $800,000 should primarily support construction but noted some final engineering and PO balances remain.
Members emphasized the need to monitor spending closely, and Eric said staff would continue coordination with the foundation and legal staff to finalize terms before construction begins.
