Airport manager proposes mission and vision statements emphasizing community and economic development

Mister Sansone presented draft mission and vision statements and asked the commission to recommend them before he takes them to county council. He read the mission: "providing a safe and friendly place for all the aviation community while adding to the critical infrastructure and economic development of Jasper County." He then read the vision: "creating a friendly self sustaining airport that connects the communities of Jasper County, aviation, private industry, and experiencing the wealth and beauty of Jasper County."

Commissioners asked how the airport statements align with the county's mission and whether the wording should emphasize economic development rather than "friendly," given past contentious relations between the airport and some local aviators. Chair Richard Dene said a written mission alone will not change behavior, while another commissioner said a clear mission and vision are necessary to guide decisions. Sansone said he would get individual feedback (including from Commissioner Williams) and bring revised statements back to the commission before presenting them to the county council for adoption.
