Christian County recognizes Ashley Marks as statewide "Engaged Neighbor" awardee

The Christian County Commission on March 26 heard a presentation from University of Missouri Extension on the statewide Engaged Neighbor program and honored Ozark resident Ashley Marks as one of 10 statewide recipients.
David Burton, a community development specialist with the Extension, said Missouri Good Neighbor Week (Sept. 28–Oct. 4) is now in its fifth year and is one of several activities that comprise the engaged neighbor program. Burton told the commission the program received 136 nominations this cycle and reported more than 42,000 acts of neighboring were recorded across the state during last year’s observance. "Learn the names of your immediate neighbors. Start a conversation," Burton said as a simple challenge for residents.
Burton read part of Marks’s nomination, which described how she and her husband walked door-to-door to welcome new neighbors "armed with a batch of homemade cookies" and their dog. The commission presented Marks with a certificate and arranged a photograph for the county newsletter.
Commissioners said they plan to feature the county recipient in the upcoming county newsletter and encouraged residents to nominate neighbors and businesses via the Missouri Good Neighbor Week website. The program’s materials, Burton said, also let communities report acts of neighboring year-round and nominate the most neighborly cities in Missouri.
The recognition segment concluded with the commission encouraging residents to participate and sign up for the county newsletter.
