County staff presented the Newton County truth-in-taxation worksheet for tax year 2025 and outlined the calculated tax-rate options the court will consider for the coming year.
Melissa Burks presented the rates, saying the county’s no-new-revenue maintenance-and-operations (M&O) rate and other line-item calculations were completed for tax year 2025. She provided specific rate figures and explained the de minimis and voter-approval rate factors, and offered to provide commissioners with full worksheets or to meet in person to review the calculations.
The presentation included the county’s calculated rates and factors used in the worksheet; Burks told the court that detailed copies were available from the appraisal office for anyone who wanted to examine the calculations more closely.
Commissioners asked procedural questions about timing and upcoming budget workshops; the judge confirmed staff will schedule workshops as needed. No final tax rate was adopted at the meeting; this presentation was an informational step to put the rate calculations into the court record and allow further review.
The next procedural step is for staff to make the full worksheets available to commissioners and for the court to set any required public hearings or adoption votes on a later agenda.
