Marjorie Kunaq Tahbone sworn in as Nome Board of Education president; board elects officers

Marjorie Kunaq Tahbone was sworn in to a three-year term as president of the Nome Public Schools Board of Education at the board’s regular meeting on Oct. 14, 2025. Superintendent Jamie Burgess administered the oath of office.
The reorganization proceeded immediately after the swearing-in. Tahbone nominated herself for president and the board approved the nomination unanimously. Tahbone then moved to nominate Member Darlene Trigg as vice president and clerk; the motion passed unanimously. The board also elected Member Jon Gregg as treasurer by unanimous vote among members present.
The reorganizational votes followed a roll-call approval of the meeting agenda, which included the removal of the Sept. 9 minutes and the reorganization item A.6. from the posted agenda and the addition of an association report. Two board members, Darlene Trigg and Sigvanna Tapqaq, were listed as excused from the meeting; the votes reflected the members present.
The board confirmed upcoming meeting dates and work sessions, and members used the remainder of the session to hear reports and act on other business. The board’s next scheduled work session is Oct. 28, 2025, with the next regular meeting on Nov. 11, 2025.
