The Urbana SD 116 Board received an overview of Illinois’s new requirement for universal mental health screening for students in grades 3 through 12 and the district’s preliminary plans to implement it.
The superintendent told the board that Public Act 1040032 (as stated in the presentation) requires districts to be ready to offer at least one universal mental health screening option by the 2027–28 school year. She said the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) is assembling recommended screening tools and plans to provide at least one free screener option and associated training; ISBE’s option is expected to be available to districts this July.
