Following executive session on March 16, the Aurora East USD 131 Board approved two resolutions upholding hearing-officer recommendations for alternative placement to Core Academy instead of expulsion for two Simmons Middle School students. Each resolution covers one calendar year, from March 17, 2026 through March 16, 2027 (including Summer School 2026), and states that failure to attend the alternative setting will trigger immediate expulsion for the remainder of the term.
The board also passed motions authorizing notices of non-reemployment for certain full-time tenured teachers not in their final probationary year and a separate resolution authorizing non-reemployment of non-tenured administrators. Trustees approved issuance of a remedial warning to certified employee and principal Fatima Ballesteros; roll-call votes for these personnel items were recorded in the meeting minutes.
Board members read the student-resolution language into the record before voting. The actions were presented as the result of hearing-officer findings and personnel processes; the board did not discuss further details in open session to preserve confidentiality.
