The Hacienda La Puente Unified School District board welcomed John Roche as its new superintendent and approved multiple administrative appointments at its Jan. 22 meeting.
John Roche, serving his 13th day, told trustees he has visited almost every school site and met with labor leaders and cabinet members as part of an onboarding process. "I believe in following our established policies and procedures," Roche said, outlining a systems-oriented approach to building consistency across the district.
The board accepted three personnel actions introduced by administration: Erin D’Auresta (appointed director of Individuals With Exceptional Needs and Inclusive Learning), Dr. Jennifer Sandoval (appointed principal, Sparks Elementary School) and Corey Rios (appointed director of information technology). Roche and board members welcomed the appointees and invited the community to support them.
Board President Kwok and trustees thanked students who opened the meeting, including the Fair Grove Middle School jazz band and student representatives from La Puente and Los Altos high schools. The board also received its annual Williams School visits report for 2023–24, which Roche said contained no findings and is available in the superintendent’s office.
No roll-call controversy accompanied the appointments; votes approving personnel items were recorded as unanimous where noted.
