The Pennridge School District board voted to adopt ‘scenario 6’ for elementary-school boundaries for 2026–27 after public comment and a lengthy board discussion about equity, class size and short notice to families.
The Pennridge School District Board of Education voted to adopt an elementary-school redistricting plan ("scenario 6") for the 2026–27 school year after extended public comment and board discussion.
Board members said the change aims to rebalance enrollments and reduce crowding. "This proposal is not rushed and reflects nearly two years of review, updated enrollment projections, and careful consideration of educational, socioeconomic and programmatic needs," said Mr. Kaufman, a board member who spoke in favor of moving ahead. Board members repeatedly framed the decision as balancing immediate family concerns with long-term districtwide equity and class-size goals.
The vote followed a public-comment period in which several parents urged the board either to delay the decision or to press ahead. Kristen Bishop, a parent, said families had limited time to review final maps after a March 17 update and urged more outreach: "This is an extremely short window for families, especially young children, to process and prepare for such major change." Other speakers urged the board to hold focus groups and provide clearer cost and enrollment analyses before approving a plan.
Board members attempted procedural delays but ultimately voted to adopt scenario 6 by voice. The board acknowledged that implementation will require additional family supports and communication; board members said adjustments had already been made to the plan based on community feedback and that further work to support affected families will continue at committee and administration levels.
Among the assurances given in public remarks, the administration and board said enrollment projections and program needs informed the recommendation. The student services committee and administration were cited as the avenues for follow-up with families.
The board passed the redistricting motion and indicated staff would continue outreach and support for impacted families. The student services committee is scheduled to meet next on April 8, 2026, to continue implementation planning.
