Sweetwater commission meeting: distributions, new fees, parks, ordinance adoption and beer permit

At a regular session, the Sweetwater commission handled a series of routine and administrative items, approving disbursements, amending fees and taking several event and land-use actions.
City Recorder Sonya presented the February distributions and line items, noting entries including "Sweetwater Board of Education, 215,000," tree-grant purchases, fire equipment repairs, and insurance premium adjustments. After questions about a workers' compensation premium increase tied to grant-funded officer hires and rising payroll, a motion to approve disbursements was made and carried by voice vote.
During old business the board approved Young Life’s request to hold a July 4th 5K and to close streets for the event. The commission also moved to designate five parcels along Main Street as park space to be maintained by town crews.
In new business the board approved an amended schedule of fees to include a new $14 garbage fee and a memorial tree fee. A staff member explained the garbage fee covers landfill and related disposal costs but does not pay curbside labor.
The board adopted an ordinance described on the agenda as a general penal penalty (Ordinance 101061) after a motion and a roll-call vote. The recorder called the roll; Commissioners Mosher, Richardson, Martin and Stutz were recorded as voting 'Aye'.
The commission adjourned and then reconvened as the beer board, where Chief Irem reviewed a beer-permit application for Ms. Colby (TAPS). Chief Irem said background checks and application materials were satisfactory and that facilities checks would be completed; the board approved the permit.
The meeting included recognition of library visitors and a proclamation for National Library Week. A parks committee meeting was announced for the coming Thursday to identify park properties and bring recommendations back to the board.
