Superintendent reports Foundation grant, enrollment updates and concerns about state categorical funding

At the Feb. 18 Minooka Community High School District #111 board meeting, district administration provided a series of informational reports on school programs, fundraising and state funding developments.
Dr. Rob Schiffbauer told the board the Educational Foundation approved a grant for Mrs. Bell’s American Sign Language class and reminded members about the Denim and Diamonds fundraiser on March 21, where limited tickets remain available. He reported that the Reach program’s recent bake sale raised more than $13,000; proceeds will support enrichment programming for Reach and transitional students, with donated ingredients helping maximize receipts.
Dr. Schiffbauer also reported that 12 Minooka CHS students have enrolled in a newly added Aviation class offered through GAVC and that Mrs. Erica Schramm will replace Mrs. Carol Senica as Assistant Director for GCSEC following Senica’s retirement.
On state funding, Dr. Schiffbauer summarized the governor’s budget address, saying evidence‑based school funding would receive an additional $300 million but noting that the address did not address mandated categoricals (MCATs). He said omission of MCATs could affect reimbursements for Special Education and Transportation and that he will continue to monitor the issue and update the board.
Other administrative notes included Coffee & Connection events (next scheduled for April 16 at 5:30 p.m.), a construction update stating projects are on schedule and under budget, and parking adjustments tied to construction with plans for about 100 additional spaces near the softball fields as part of the overall campus plan.
The updates were provided for board review; no formal action was required on these informational items at the meeting.
