Pottawattamie County supervisors approve veterans and weather proclamations, authorize disaster-recovery work and personnel actions

The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors met March 24, 2026, and approved a package of proclamations, authorizations and personnel actions, then held a closed session on a real-estate matter.
The board, chaired by Brian Shea, unanimously approved minutes from its March 17 meeting before recognizing Scott Moroney for 30 years of service as a communications 911 operator. On a motion by Supervisor Jeff Jorgensen, seconded by Supervisor Tim Wichman, the board adopted a proclamation designating March 29, 2026, as Vietnam War Veterans Day in Pottawattamie County; the proclamation notes the county will host The Wall That Heals in 2026. The motion carried on a roll-call vote of Shea, Wichman, Miller, Jorgensen and Jones.
The board also approved a proclamation recognizing March 23–27, 2026, as Severe Weather Awareness Week, highlighting a statewide tornado drill scheduled for March 25 at 10:00 a.m. That motion, moved by Supervisor Keith Jones and seconded by Jorgensen, was approved on a roll-call vote with Supervisor Susan Miller recorded as absent.
On disaster-recovery business, the board authorized Doug Reed, director of Emergency Management, to complete 2024 disaster work on the county’s behalf and affirmed the Secondary Roads department’s use of the county’s UEI number for recovery efforts. The motion, made by Jorgensen and seconded by Keith Jones, carried unanimously.
In other actions the board approved assessor applications (Homestead: 112 allowed, 13 disallowed; Military: 15 allowed, 2 disallowed; Disabled Veteran Homestead: 13 allowed; Family Farm: 1 allowed), authorized posting a Budget and Finance Director position, and approved a new Public Relations job description for Kate Gerber. These personnel and administrative items passed on motions made chiefly by Supervisor Tim Wichman and seconded by Jeff Jorgensen.
The board received and filed routine reports and notifications, including the Sheriff’s report of fees for February 2026 and out-of-state travel notifications for county staff. Minnie Walsh appeared during public comment; the transcript records her appearance but does not specify her remarks.
The board voted to go into closed session under Iowa Code 21.5(1)(j) to discuss the purchase or sale of real estate, then returned to open session without additional public action recorded. The meeting adjourned at 11:17 a.m.
