Committee backs proposal to raise sidewalk reimbursement to $5 per square foot

Miranda Lambert, community development director, said the reimbursement level has not kept pace with inflation and noted a recent application showed a cost of $19.84 per square foot; a quick market check showed typical sidewalk costs locally often fall between about $5 and $12 per square foot. Lambert said the community development committee voted to advance the recommended increase to council.
The chair acknowledged the committee action and said the rate increase will appear on next Monday’s council agenda for final action. No final change to the reimbursement program took effect at the committee meeting.
Next step: staff will place the ordinance/rate change on the next regular council meeting for adoption and to present any necessary budget or funding details.
