District construction staff updated the board on ongoing projects and near-term facility priorities at the Jan. 14 meeting.
Presenters reported Richards is nearing completion with outstanding front glass, counseling and tenant spaces operational, and encouraged board members to visit the site. The board discussed a multi-year capital approach: finish main entrances in the coming summer, follow with classroom renovations, expand career and technical education via hub sites (kitchens and auto/engineering labs) rather than duplicating facilities in every building, and if funds permit add turf for softball and baseball fields.
Board members and staff also identified a major mechanical concern: the aging boiler/heating system at Eisenhower that will require a complete overhaul if funding allows. In new business the board authorized Bid No. 1517 to solicit bids for interior and exterior renovations at Eisenhower and Richards High School; Jose, the district’s construction representative, was present for questions during the vote.
What happens next: Facilities staff will prepare bid documents under Bid No. 1517 and return to the board with responsive bids and a recommended contractor selection process.
