Laura Wilkerson, identified by the clerk as the lone public speaker at the special meeting, urged the National City City Council on Sept. 3 to pursue private investment and economic development opportunities.
Wilkerson told the council there was an opportunity for “economic development and substantial revenues for the City,” and cited how other California communities such as Paradise and Vista moved quickly to restore and grow local economies. “What we'd like to do, if we can, is get to yes with the city of National City,” she said, urging city leaders to support proposals that would create jobs and new revenue.
Wilkerson thanked the mayor for remarks at a South County economic development summit and asked the council to consider the proposal before them as a fast path to prosperity. The clerk recorded one speaker for the item; no formal staff presentation or council action on the suggested investment was recorded during the special meeting.
