Newton County commissioners approved awarding a paving contract to Mason Construction for overlay work on County Roads 3125 and 3126 after reviewing two bids.
County staff described Mason Construction's low bid as $113,381.40 for a 2-inch asphalt overlay on two segments totaling about 2,514 feet at an 18-foot width (square-yard price listed in the submitted bid: $22.55). Commissioners said the funds are available across dedicated road, lateral road and general road-and-bridge accounts (funds 24, 39 and 44) and asked the county auditor to verify the bid documents before final execution. A motion to accept Mason Construction's bid, subject to that audit review, was made, seconded and approved by the court.
One commissioner noted a prior job Mason Construction completed on County Road 4129 and described the contractor's workmanship and scheduling as reasons for the award. The court recorded the contingent acceptance and instructed staff to return the verified contract for signature.
