Compton council approves consent agenda; deputies report arrests after ShotSpotter alerts

The Compton City Council on Sept. 23 approved the consent agenda after a roll call vote and noted that agenda item No. 3 was tabled and will return at the council’s next regular meeting in early October.
During public safety announcements, Deputy Debbie McIntosh of the Compton Sheriff's Station described a recent incident in which deputies responded to ShotSpotter alerts, located two armed suspects, and recovered additional firearms following a search warrant. McIntosh said ShotSpotter has been a "valuable resource" in recent months and provides deputies with timely alerts that have aided arrests.
City staff also reported abating multiple homeless encampments along the Long Beach Boulevard corridor (including at Long Beach & Murr and Long Beach & Shiner) and said abatements would continue when encampments obstruct sidewalks or public passage. The city manager said staff would look into other encampment reports from District 1 as requested by residents.
The meeting recessed for a closed session earlier to discuss pending litigation (Robert Quintero v. City of Compton, case no. 22STCV12731) and reconvened with no reportable action. At the close of the meeting the council adjourned at 6:57 p.m.
