Facilities staff said removing concrete tiers in the existing cafeteria and raising the floor to a single level will allow more table seating; they also proposed a glass partition to separate service areas and improve circulation.
Presenters noted site constraints including a grade change of nearly 10 feet on one side and said the project will regrade space behind the building to create exterior storage and service access. The soccer field behind the site is proposed as a contractor staging area during construction and would be regraded and restored when work is complete.
Board members questioned corridor widths and locker placement to reduce congestion; presenters said the new corridor and locker arrangement should widen circulation and reduce pinch points. Staff framed the addition as increasing functional capacity to district targets (cited as roughly 85%) and aligning finished construction with projected enrollment timelines around September 2028.
Facilities recommended proceeding with design and staggered bidding to secure competitive bids; no formal approval or contract award was recorded at the meeting. Staff said the project will return to committee and board for next steps and for any contract approvals.
