Staff presented two outreach samples for an upcoming historic‑preservation grant and asked commissioners for feedback on copy, color and distribution. The materials included a full‑page flyer that broke down the grant budget and a postcard‑style handout intended for quick distribution.
Commissioners recommended making the small flyer’s font and color easier to read, adding the budget breakdown that appears on the larger flyer, and ensuring the QR code links to the HLC webpage and the online application. Staff said the QR code already links to the HLC site and that communications staff would assist with printing and web integration.
Members discussed distribution options: canvassing downtown businesses to engage tenants who might in turn interest property owners versus using the county appraisal district (CAD) records to mail owners directly. Commissioners suggested a mixed approach; staff offered to print materials and coordinate volunteer or staff‑assisted outreach and said they would prepare photos or video for commissioners who cannot attend site visits.
What happens next Staff will incorporate the requested edits, finalize print files and work with communications on web integration and distribution. The commission did not take a formal vote on the flyers.
Quote "If you scan it, it will go to the HLC website," said Frankie Linder, referring to the QR code on the flyer.
Ending Staff will revise the flyers and proceed with printing and a distribution plan in coordination with commission volunteers and the communications office.
