District 33 recommends myPerspectives for Leman Middle and McGraw-Hill science, social-studies pilots; vote set for March 19

District 33 staff presented curriculum recommendations at the board's March 5 meeting that would change middle-school English language arts materials and launch elementary science and social-studies pilots.
Jenny Brunke, Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning, told the board the Leman Middle School Literacy Subject Area Committee and a teacher pilot that began in March 2025 reviewed myPerspectives and recommended full adoption for Leman. The pilot included teachers from each grade level, co-taught and accelerated classrooms, and a mix of new and veteran staff; Brunke summarized successes, challenges and survey feedback and outlined next steps if the board approves the adoption at its March 19 meeting.
Brunke also described the elementary resource selection process. A broadly representative Subject Area Committee reviewed demonstrations and comparative materials and recommended piloting McGraw-Hill's Inspire Science and McGraw-Hill's Impact Social Studies for the 2026–27 school year. The committee included most elementary buildings, each grade level through sixth grade, dual- and monolingual-classroom teachers, instructional and technology coaches, and library media specialists.
Board members were given implementation timelines and action plans tied to building-level goals, including literacy, ACCESS (English learner) priorities, math, and building culture work. Cathy Park, Director of Assessment and Accountability, presented winter assessment results and spring goals that staff said will inform the adoption and pilot rollout.
Board member Chad McLean framed the curriculum work within the board's shared agreements, saying the body aims to "Make decisions according to what is best for ALL District 33 students" and urging a focus on district instructional priorities.
No formal vote on either the middle-school adoption or the elementary pilots occurred March 5; administrators said both items will return for board action on March 19, 2026.
