Public Art committee updates website, issues bench RFP to 520 artists and votes to skip December meeting

On project updates, staff said the artful-bench RFP was distributed to roughly 520 artists (regional, national and local) and that staff had received a number of questions but no completed applications yet. “The deadline for submissions is January 9, and then you all will review the applicants at your meeting on January 19,” staff said.
The committee discussed whether to move forward with corridor-level planning versus smaller installations and noted accessibility updates to the master-plan materials (color-blind–friendly versions). Staff also described an ambassadorship form on the website to let volunteers express interest in helping publicize projects.
Procedurally, the committee voted to skip its December meeting to be consistent with other advisory bodies; a member moved the cancellation and members recorded the vote in favor. Members then discussed scheduling January meetings and tentatively landed on a late-January date to allow time after the bench submission deadline.
Next steps: staff will continue outreach for bench submissions, prepare materials for committee review in January, and coordinate follow-up on items (including any habitat-permission issues flagged during public comment).
