CHSD 218 hears multi-phase renovation plan and MWRD flood-project schedule; Eisenhower ribbon-cutting set for Nov. 6
Summary

A committee member reported the district’s Operations & Maintenance meeting described a three-phase construction plan: Phase 1 (go to bid in December) will focus on Richards High School main entrance renovation and several projects at Eisenhower (main office renovation, concrete plaza and lobby), and includes renovation of some classrooms; Phase 2 (targeted for 2027) will add additional classroom renovations at Richards and Eisenhower; Phase 3 (also planned for 2027) would address baseball and softball fields at Shepherd, Eisenhower and Richards and examine options to turf either infields or full fields. The committee recommended the board consider Phase 1 bids at the November or December meeting.
Separately, a presenter summarized the Village of Oak Lawn / MWRD flood-mitigation project: crews are scheduled to mobilize Nov. 3, 2025, with excavation to begin in the southwest corner of the project area and an expected construction completion date of Oct. 26, 2026. The presenter said traffic flow along Cicero Avenue was the primary community concern raised at recent forums and provided a point of contact at Burke Engineering (Tim) and the Village of Oak Lawn website for ongoing updates.
Chair and staff also reminded members that an Eisenhower Auditorium open house and ribbon-cutting is planned for Nov. 6; program details will be circulated to the board.
The board did not debate funding amounts for specific phases during the public session; those financial details were not specified and will be addressed as bids and contracts are developed.
