Edison High to retire coach Jim Muldowney’s No. 24 jersey; ceremony set for Sept. 20

The Edison Township Board of Education read a resolution honoring the life and service of James “Jim” Muldowney and approved retiring his No. 24 across Edison High School athletics.
Dave Sandell, the district athletic supervisor, described Muldowney’s long career as an EHS graduate, teacher, coach and district supervisor of physical education and health. Sandell noted Muldowney’s long record of team success — including the 1993 Edison baseball team that finished highly in national rankings — and asked the Muldowney family to rise for acknowledgement.
A formal resolution read aloud memorialized Muldowney’s service and listed achievements, including coaching titles and years of service. The resolution states the retirement of jersey No. 24 across all Edison High School athletic teams and schedules a ceremonial presentation to the family during halftime of the home football game against North Brunswick on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024.
"No other EHS athlete in any sport will ever wear number 24 in honor of James Muldowney," Sandell said. The resolution will be recorded in the permanent minutes of the Edison Township Board of Education and a copy presented to the Muldowney family.
The board and superintendent thanked Sandell, Judy Cox (help with the resolution) and the Muldowney family for attending. The transcript contains the full reading of the resolution and the ceremony date.
