Board hears first reading of several policy revisions and agrees superintendent goal areas for 2025–26

On first reading the board reviewed proposed revisions to equity, nondiscrimination, facilities use and harassment policies and agreed on three superintendent goal areas tied to the Strategic Plan: Safe and Inclusive Environments; Continuous Growth; and Needs-Based Facilities Improvements.
At the Sept. 24 meeting, district staff presented a first reading of proposed policy revisions and the board discussed priorities for superintendent evaluation goals tied to the district strategic plan.
Gina Anderson, Chief of Innovation, Compliance and School Support Operations, gave a first reading of proposed revisions to Policies 1020 (Equity), 1410 (Community Use of School Buildings, Equipment and Grounds), 4005 (Staff Nondiscrimination and Affirmative Action), 4010 (Personnel Recruitment Selection and Assignment—Nondiscrimination), 5090 (Student Nondiscrimination), 5580 (Prohibition of Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying) and 5585 (Hate Speech and Bias Incidents). The presentation was introductory; the board did not adopt changes at this meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Mary Templeton led a discussion on Board and Superintendent goals for 2025–26, noting the district Strategic Plan 'Foundations for Excellence' will guide goal selection. The board, with Student Advisory Council members present, discussed priorities and ultimately agreed on three goal areas: Safe and Inclusive Environments; Continuous Growth for Each Student and Staff Member; and Needs-Based Facilities Improvements.
Board members emphasized measurable goals and accountability. President Mari Taylor and Director David Iseminger praised the collaborative process that produced the agreed priority areas. The first reading of the policy revisions means additional review and potential adoption at a subsequent meeting.
