Imlay City Board approves special-education hire and a slate of administrative authorizations

The Imlay City Board of Education on July 28, 2025 approved an employment contract for Chander Crump as a special education teacher and unanimously passed a series of administrative authorizations intended to streamline district operations.
President Sharon Muir called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. and the board — Kaylee Kaeding (vice president), Doug Van Dyk (treasurer) and trustees Greg Dennis, Alex Lengemann, Ashley Wolford and Laura Zelenak — were all recorded present.
The board’s first substantive action was to approve an employment contract for Chander Crump, introduced earlier by Weston Elementary Principal Jenny Buhl-Hagey. The contract is effective August 19, 2025; the motion to offer the contract was moved by Trustee Alex Lengemann and supported by Vice President Kaylee Kaeding and carried by unanimous roll call.
In other unanimous actions, the board:
- Authorized the board president and the superintendent to cancel Board of Education meetings in the event of inclement weather or other emergencies (motion moved by Vice President Kaylee Kaeding, supported by Trustee Greg Dennis).
- Authorized the superintendent to contract with law firms necessary to conduct district business (moved by Trustee Alex Lengemann; supported by Vice President Kaylee Kaeding).
- Authorized the superintendent to release and accept students (moved by Trustee Alex Lengemann; supported by Vice President Kaylee Kaeding).
- Designated President Sharon Muir as the district’s Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) liaison for 2025–2026.
- Designated the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent as the person responsible for implementing the public-notice requirement of the Open Meetings Act (OMA).
Dr. Stu Cameron provided administrative updates earlier in the meeting, summarizing staffing changes; the status of multiple athletics projects; plans to relocate the Consortium for Exceptional Children and Venture students; progress on revised cell-phone policies; and the rebranding of Venture Alternative High School. No public comments were recorded.
Treasurer Doug Van Dyk thanked those who supported athletics projects; Trustee Greg Dennis asked that the Building and Grounds committee begin planning for several district projects that will require setting aside funds. Trustee Alex Lengemann moved to adjourn; President Muir adjourned the meeting at 7:47 p.m.
