Richardson County opens sealed bids for Dawson Northwest road project; award expected next week

Chairman John Caverzagie opened sealed bids at 10:00 a.m. on March 25 for the Dawson Northwest Project No. C-74(2023-05), presenting proof of publication and the three bids received. Bidders and their proposals were Malone Construction Co., Inc. of Douglas, Nebraska, for $113,766.50; MC Wells Contracting of Omaha for $67,825.00; and Van Dorn Valley Construction, LLC of Denton for $40,720.78.
Josh Keithley of Midwest Engineering, Inc. presented the engineer’s estimate for the project at $65,344.00. After the bids were read, Commissioner John Caverzagie moved to accept the bids solely for further review by the county engineer and the Highway Superintendent; Vice-Chairman Karas seconded the motion. The roll-call vote was Karas-aye, Campbell-aye, Caverzagie-aye, and the motion carried. The board will consider awarding the contract at its next regular meeting.
The range between the engineer’s estimate and the lowest bid will be one point of review for the county’s engineer and Highway Superintendent as they prepare a recommendation. No contract award or vendor approval was recorded at this meeting; the board limited its action to accepting the bids for review.
