Argo Community High School District 217 approved its 2025 property tax levy and several routine finance motions at the Dec. 17 board meeting.
Business manager Dr. Joseph Rojek presented the levy and explained that, because the requested levy did not exceed 5% over last year, a public hearing was not required. The district estimated a total extension of $37,997,619.47, consisting of a capped extension of about $35,481,000 and a Bond & Interest extension of $2,516,619.47. Fund-level amounts presented included an Education fund levy of $23,622,000; Transportation $2,500,000; Retirement $700,000; Social Security $900,000; and Special Education $3,800,000. Dr. Rojek noted that transportation costs have been the largest driver of increases.
The board passed Motion #2026‑095 adopting the 2025 property tax levy. The board also approved motions to dispose of obsolete IT equipment (#2026‑096), accept the finance report and monthly payroll (#2026‑097), approve accounts payable/Imprest (#2026‑098 and #2026‑100), and approve the December financial report and payroll (#2026‑099). Board minutes record unanimous votes on those routine finance motions.
Dr. Cotter reported 18 FOIA requests received this period with 13 fulfilled and 5 in process; attachments were posted to the district Board Book for public review. The board adjourned to executive session and later approved employment action for the Assistant Superintendent of Finance (motion #2026‑103) and the December 2025 personnel report (#2026‑104) before adjourning at 8:00 p.m.
Why it matters: The levy adoption sets the district's revenue expectations for fiscal planning and funds core operations, while the finance motions maintain routine business continuity.
