Gilroy Unified board approves expulsions, nonpublic-school contracts, calendar and bargaining proposal

The Gilroy Unified School District Board of Education approved a slate of formal actions during its Nov. 7 meeting, including closed‑session settlement agreements, several student expulsion decisions, the district’s initial bargaining proposal to the Gilroy Teachers Association, adoption of the 2025–26 instructional calendar and master contracts placing students in nonpublic schools.
The board reported that it unanimously approved settlement agreements to resolve two students’ educational claims. In closed session the board then considered four removal/suspension/expulsion cases (identified in the meeting transcript as cases 2025‑09, 2025‑11, 2025‑13 and 2025‑14). Motions to expel were moved and seconded and carried; for case 2025‑13 the board subsequently moved to suspend the expulsion. The board recorded a 6–0 roll call on the reported settlements, with trustees Aguirre, Feock, Goode, Kim, Nelson and Pace voting yes; trustee Paceno was absent.
The board also voted to approve the district’s initial proposal to begin bargaining with the Gilroy Teachers Association for the 2024–25 cycle after a public hearing in which no members of the public spoke. Separately, trustees approved the 2025–26 instructional calendar as presented; the calendar mirrors the current year with one change: the committee placed an additional day on Oct. 13, 2025 to recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
On special‑education placements the board approved a master contract to place two students at Rising Star Special Education (a nonpublic school) after district options were exhausted, and approved an amendment to a master contract to place another student at Pine Hill School (nonpublic school). Both items were moved, seconded and adopted by roll call/voice vote as announced at the meeting.
