Committee approves 2026 budget amendment to fund three firefighter-paramedics after new EMS contracts

The Special Finance Committee voted 3-0 to approve 2026 budget amendment No. 1 to recognize revenue from newly renewed EMS contracts and to fund three new firefighter-paramedic positions.
Finance Director Tim D'Source said the contracts approved in December 2025 with the city of Intecosa, the town of Port Edwards, the town of Cranmore and the Ho-Chunk Nation raised the per-capita EMS fee. "The per capita EMS fee charged to those municipalities increased from $26 per capita to 56 with the caveat that that increase in that per capita rate would be used to fund 3 new firefighter paramedic positions," D'Source said.
D'Source also said the contract terms included a set-aside of approximately $26,250 each year to replace an ambulance. The amendment recognizes the associated expenses for the three paramedics and the corresponding increase in revenue from the new contracts and EMS runs.
A committee member moved to approve the amendment and the motion passed 3-0. The committee recorded the revenue increase and authorized staffing adjustments to add the three firefighter-paramedic positions.
