CHSD 218 board honors student filmmaker, approves bid request for Richards High gym addition

Dr. Jacobson presented a resolution of commendation recognizing Richards High junior Grace Tresch, whose video story The Outside Kitchen was selected for the All American High School Film Festival and is scheduled to be shown Oct. 19 at AMC Empire 25 in Times Square. "Best part of the meeting is right here," Dr. Jacobson said when introducing the recognition. The board moved and seconded the commendation and the chair announced the motion carried.
During the public-comment period a resident thanked the district for support after a recent family bereavement; board members offered condolences.
The board then approved the consent agenda, which the chair said included approval of minutes for 08/21/2025 (regular and closed session), the employee medical and dental insurance renewal, approval of expenditures including CHSD 218 payment of bills and max payables, and personnel recommendations listed as Personnel List 2025-9. The motion passed on a roll-call vote.
On Bid 1516, the board voted to authorize soliciting bids for a proposed gymnasium addition at Richards High School. Dr. Jacobson said the project "has been in the works for the last few years" and that Richards is constrained on available land, making the proposed rear-site addition the most feasible option. He said the design would add another gym to the campus; in discussion a board member noted the district’s schools would then have comparable square footage. The board voted to move forward with the bidding process and indicated the project would be planned to begin in summer if a contract is later awarded. The vote to authorize bidding was carried by the board.
Motions and votes taken at the meeting were procedural and did not include final contract awards; the action on Bid 1516 authorized only solicitation of bids, not contract approval. The meeting adjourned after the board declined the need for a closed session.
