District receives $88,348.99 energy-incentive check after LED retrofit at middle school

The Colton Joint Unified School District on July 17 accepted an incentive check from the Inland Regional Energy Network for an LED lighting retrofit at Joe Buckham Middle School. District presenters said the retrofit upgraded more than 1,000 fixtures to improve light quality and energy efficiency.
Jay Kim summarized the work and said the upgrades will reduce electricity usage by about 25% and save approximately $40,000 a year in utility costs. Betty Pineda of IREN said savings were measured and verified through meter-interval data during the post-construction verification period and presented a check for $88,348.99 representing 40% of the calculated rebate. She told the board the remaining estimated incentive dollars (about $132,523.49) are scheduled to be dispersed after 12 months of post-construction verification.
Board members thanked the partner organizations and invited a photo with the board. The district said it looks forward to future collaborations to identify further energy and cost savings across campuses.
