The Santa Paula Unified School District board approved resolutions to implement classified layoffs and to terminate services of one certificated employee, following required notice procedures. Vanessa from human resources presented the measures, saying the action follows earlier March resolutions and formal notice requirements.
Vanessa summarized the classified-layoff action: "This is the final resolution, layoff, for classified employees. It follows up on the March resolution. The March resolution listed positions only. Preliminary notices were sent by March 15 to employees in the affected positions... No one requested a hearing." She said employees who are laid off will be placed on a 39‑month reemployment list and that the superintendent or designee may rescind layoff notices if vacancies occur before July 1.
Trustees acknowledged the difficulty of the personnel decisions and thanked staff for work at school sites evaluating staffing formulas and funding. During debate trustees corrected and confirmed resolution numbers before moving to votes. A trustee moved to adopt the classified-layoff resolution and later moved to adopt the certificated-termination resolution; both motions were seconded and passed by voice vote.
What this means: The classified layoffs and the certificated termination are final board actions following district procedures; affected employees will be listed on the district reemployment list for 39 months. The board noted staff will follow statutory and procedural requirements for layoffs and the district will pursue any rescissions if vacancies appear before July 1.
