At the open‑session announcements the board disclosed actions taken in closed session related to labor negotiations. The chair reported that trustees took a unanimous action “to direct the district negotiations team to execute the 01/07/2025 tentative agreement with MUTA and to bring the signed agreement back to the board in February for formal approval after it has been ratified by MUTA's membership.”
Earlier public commenters, including union president Angela Stegall and several teachers, urged the board to engage in good‑faith bargaining and described a history of adversarial negotiations. Stegall told trustees she appreciated the closed‑session development and said the union would meet with its membership to ratify any tentative agreement.
The board did not conduct a public vote to adopt the contract at this meeting; the action authorized district negotiators to execute the tentative agreement and return to the board for formal approval after ratification by MUTA members.
