The Los Gatos Town Council on Aug. 5 adopted a resolution confirming the 2025 weed‑abatement assessment report and authorizing collection of related charges, after staff and county officials recommended removing one parcel from the list.
Stephanie Hockmeier, project manager with the town's Parks and Public Works, told the council the assessment includes a $105 first‑inspection fee charged to every parcel in the program, with additional charges possible for follow‑up inspections, administrative costs and abatement actions. She said the final report lists 81 parcels, down from 86 in January after corrections, parcel splits and three parcels found to have met the three‑year compliance requirement.
County weed‑abatement manager Garik Iosilevskiy said the county’s process allows staff to remove a property from the program when inspectors confirm landscaping or construction prevents regrowth; he said the parcel associated with APN 409‑15‑021 on Mulberry had been inspected and removed from this year’s billing. Hockmeier told the council staff would amend the resolution to remove that parcel from exhibit A before the council vote.
One resident, Jay Hak Haku, asked the council to waive a large assessment that included a prior year's work‑order fee; county staff explained the property at 16481 South Kennedy Road failed inspection in July 2024 and the work‑order processing fee rolled into this year's tax bill, although the property passed inspection this year and will only retain the $105 inspection fee this cycle.
Council member Badami moved to adopt the resolution with the Mulberry parcel removed; the motion passed on a unanimous roll‑call vote.
The resolution confirms the assessment list as amended and authorizes collection of the listed charges. Staff emphasized that parcels remain in the program until they have been found compliant for three consecutive years. The county will continue to process appeals and adjustments according to its inspection and exemption procedures.
The council moved to the next agenda item after the vote.
