Huntsville Middle School students and staff received multiple recognitions at the April 7 board meeting. The district recognized the middle-school yearbook team for placing third in a Lifetouch international showcase, named several student honorees and announced faculty and staff awards including faculty-member-of-the-month and certified employee recognitions.
Staff described the yearbook achievement and introduced Mr. Taylor, who advised the team. A board member moved to approve a stipend intended to compensate the adviser for extra work managing the district yearbook effort, but the motion did not receive a second in the meeting transcript and no formal approval was recorded.
The board also heard an informational presentation about the WOLF/WIN transition program, a work-based learning initiative for special-education students. Staff said the program attracts grant funding that pays students above minimum wage, and that grants may cover a recommended $1,500 teacher stipend paid after participation; presenters emphasized the stipend would come from grant funds and would not cost the district.
District staff announced plans for an April professional-development day to be designated as a virtual workday so teachers can complete required PD hours and upload evidence and artifacts remotely, a step the district said is intended to help teachers finish mandatory requirements during a testing period.
The board applauded honorees, thanked staff for the programs and acknowledged the range of extracurricular supports and clubs reported by school staff.
